Director, Senior Companion Program (Full Time)

OVERVIEW

The Senior Companion Program is funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and engages persons 55 and older, particularly those with limited incomes, in volunteer service to meet critical community needs and to provide a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of the volunteers and the individuals they serve. Senior companions provide supportive, individualized services to help adults with special needs in order to maintain their independence. Senior companions provide respite for caregivers so that they can run errands, take a break, or tend to themselves and families. Senior companions are volunteers who make life-changing connections with older adults, assisting them in basic but essential ways and make a significant contribution to their quality of life. 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Program Director has responsibility for development and operation of the Senior Companion Program (SCP) and works with Senior Day Services staff, volunteer station staff, and other community agencies to assure the SCP serves the needs of older adults. The SCP Program Director is responsible for daily management of the program and is actively involved with community organizations, health care providers, and volunteers. The Program Director has responsibility for managing all aspects of the grant through the e-grants portal.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS) federal grant including reporting, evaluation, tracking outcomes, and managing the budget;
  • Plans and develops all phases of SCP operations incluging volunteer recruitment and outreach;
  • Responsible for growing the program (e.g., recruiting volunters and expanding sites);
  • Enhances SCP efforts through active involvement with community organizations and other national service programs, where appropriate;
  • Assists with hiring, training, and supervising adequate staff to efficiently carry out, maintain, and develop SCP operations;
  • Provides support, information, and materials for program coordinator, administrative assistant, and other staff as appropriate;
  • Convenes and manages SCP advisory board in accordance with CNCS requirements and solicits their input;
  • Adheres to and administers personnel policies and procedures for staff consistent with those of Telespond and CNCS;
  • Maintains strong relationships with federal and state CNCS program staff;
  • Ensures background checks are completed for covered staff and volunteers in accordance with CNCS and organizational policy;
  • Develops and maintains appropriate fiscal, personnel, program and volunteer records, and reports;
  • Implements CNCS performance measures, evaluation protocols, and SCP grant requirements;
  • Plans, develops, and implements ongoing public relations opportunities, including social media;
  • Facilitates formal and regular recognition of volunteers, organizations, and individuals who have contributed to SCP’s support;
  • Assures volunteer training and orientation;
  • Develops and maintains close coordination of volunteer assignment plans;
  • Provides ongoing support to volunteers and staff;
  • Attends training conducted or authorized by CNCS and others as appropriate; and
  • Attendance at after hours and weekend meetings/events may be required. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred;
  • Two years of human services experience;
  • Genuine concern, understanding and sensitivity to older persons, their needs and interests, and unique circumstances;
  • Experience managing federal grants is preferred;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary for preparing grants, written reports, and delivering oral presentations and training;
  • Familiarity and ability to form working relationships with community organizations;
  • Training and/or experience in work with those over 55 years of age and volunteers;
  • Public speaking and communication skills; and
  • Computer literacy, flexibility, experience with social media, and management skills.


 

Administrative Assistant (Full Time)

OVERVIEW

Senior Day Services, A Telespond Company is seeking a full time Administrative Assistant. This position is an integral part of our staff responsible for supporting the Senior Companion Program (SCP) and managing organizational administrative functions including website, databases, and communications. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provision of administrative support to the Senior Companion Program Director and Program Coordinator.
  • Maintenance of accurate and current SCP files.
  • Maintain SCP Volunteer personnel files including physical examinations, benefit time, mileage, criminal background checks, and payroll.
  • Assist with preparation of grant proposals/reports.
  • Maintain organization website and social media accounts.
  • Coordinating updates on Google Calendars, documents, and databases.
  • Client contact, directing and answering phones and emails.
  • Document preparation (ex: letters, flyers, memos, blog updates, newsletter, media, outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Genuine concern, understanding and sensitivity to older persons, their needs and interests and unique circumstances.
  • Strong writing and editing skills. Familiar with developing content for the website and other online platforms (i.e., posts, updates, outreach, Zoom). Basic document creation. 
  • Some college required, Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to work with all levels of the organization and volunteers with excellent written, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate a positive, professional appearance and attitude, and sensitivity to older adults.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
